stainedwithink asked: BERING AND WELLS. Obviously. I'm super curious what songs you might have for them.
Well this is cheating because I obviously already have a mix for them. And it’s pretty epic. And I could honestly post 30 songs, i.e. The National’s entire discography. However. Have a vaguely-follows-the-torture-that-is-canon
Lykke Li - Little bit (pre-Buried, cue sobbing, ignore one gender inappropriate lyric.)
The Civil Wars - Poison & wine. (H.G. is conflicted about ending the world because Myka, cue sobbing.)
The Cardigans - You’re the storm. (Pre-Buried, Myka is kinda thinking about macking on H.G. … & because yeah, I’m totally going to make that terrible pun about apocalypses and storms and this song just reminding me of them.)
Swell Season - I have loved you wrong. (H.G. feels pretty terrible about trying to end the world. Cue sobbing.)
Azure Ray - While I’m still young. (“We did make a good team, didn’t we?” … “We did…I just wish you would have realised that sooner.” … “So do I.” Cue sobbing. PS Heads up, this file is mislabelled. Sorry.)
Trespassers Willaim - Lie in the sound. (I love you more than I should, so much more than is good, for me. See also: “the price is too high.”)
The Submarines - Swimming pool. (“Wells and Bering.” “Bering and Wells.” See head canon: and then they made out. And they were both cutely hopeful that this was it and they could be happy together and then canon took it all way. Cue sobbing.)
Ellie Goulding & Erik Hassle - Be mine. (Post-finale, Myka is a little bit sad about H.G. being dead. You know, if you want to feel like you’ve eaten glass and tear up your insides. The lyrics aren’t exactly perfect, but the line about wishing’s just no good gets me, every time.)
Okay, I’ll stop. Because I could do a ‘angsty Myka post-H.G.’s death’ mix for years, probably. And I’m getting depressed. I swear I have a happy “after season three everything is resolved and Myka and H.G. get gay married” mix for them as well.
Bonuses because I got carried away uploading: Fade Into You by Mazzy Star. We Exchanged Words by Azure Ray. My Favourite Love by Maria Taylor. Hologram by Katie Herzig because I can’t resist an obvious joke. And more post-season three heartbreaky-ness, Birdy’s cover of Fire and Rain. And Charlene Soraia’s cover of Wherever you will go.
Plus, lyrics unrelated (except for the title) but I just love this song and the atmosphere of it is evocative? England by The National.
(What, I told you I went overboard. It occurs to me now that a .zip might’ve been appropriate. Sorry.)
