CASTLE: Do you believe that people get what they deserve?
BECKETT: If they do then I must have done something pretty terrible to be punished with you.
CASTLE: Funny.~ 2x19, “Wrapped up in death”

Okay, I need to come out of the tags for a moment for this. Can we talk about how I don’t think I would trade in this moment for a hug? Like, I wanted a hug, and the more body contact the better, but if they had hugged, they wouldn’t have been able to see each others faces looking like this, and Martha wouldn’t have been able to witness this moment (which I think is actually really important because she never gets to see Beckett with Castle, she only sees Castle reacting to her at home and now she knows Beckett feels the same way as her son, saw it on her face.) Beckett’s tone of voice when she asks “how are you?” and that hand she keeps on his collar the entire time also kill me when you can see their faces reacting all over the place.
BASICALLY I’M JUST NOT FEELING LIKE THIS WAS A DOWNGRADE FROM A HUG, which is awesome since I thought I would feel like that without one, and I don’t.

I wasn’t gonna cry, but now my tear ducts are like “who cares what you want, woman? look at this. Look. At. This.”
His widen a tiny bit, like he realizes she cares about him a lot, maybe even loves him. :’)
(Why yes, this scene made me cry, too.)
She’s been looking at him this way all season behind his back, and she finally doesn’t mind if he sees it. Heck, I think she wants him to see it.
This scene. I love how you can see the recognition in his eyes and I really think it’s a turning point. Everyone is right, about how she’s been hiding these little moments we’ve been seeing all season from him, but I think the corollary of that is that Castle has been a little wary to hope this season. I think he’s sort of taken all his feelings and put them in a box, because in Rise she said she wasn’t ready yet and that he had to wait, but he’s seeing here that she really meant what she said and I think that he sees that she really feels everything she can’t say.
And Beckett. I love how she calls to him immediately even in front of all the other cops, and how she’s fingering his shirt, like she won’t let herself hug him or anything, she’s still restrained, but she still has to touch him, to make sure he’s really there and really okay. And how she’s so lost in the moment, in a way I don’t think we’ve ever seen in her before. Flawless character development is flawless.
